Nurses, doctors, and community activists have received no support from City Hall or Albany, and they are having to resort to civil disobedience in an effort to save LICH from closing. What does it say when police drag our nurses into jail, just because our nurses are fighting to save our hospitals ?

Activists are calling on LICH's operator, SUNY, to stop their unlawful and dangerous ambulance diversion and to stop trying to sabotage care for Brooklyn patients.

At a meeting last Thursday in Redhook, Brooklyn, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn was "blasted" by voters for not having any plan to save Long Island College Hospital (LICH).

After Speaker Quinn delayed a vote on paid sick leave for three years, she finally stops stalling and reaches a watered-down compromise in order to avoid a revolt by City Councilmembers, who were ready to use the nuclear option to bring the paid sick leave bill up for a vote.

But after 10 hospital closings in New York City since 2006, what does providing paid sick leave for people, who may be gravely ill ? What does paid sick leave mean, if our healthcare system is collapsing ?

Don't Vote On State Budget Until "Gov. 1%" Cuomo Saves LICH !

Long Island College Hospital supporters are sponsoring a Change.org petition to save LICH. The sponsored include these New York State legislators : Assemblywoman Joan Millman and State Senator Daniel Squadron.

In conjunction with State Senators Velmanette Montgomery, Kevin Parker, Martin Malave Dilan, Diane Savino, Martin Golden, John Sampson, and Eric Adams -- and State Assembly Members: Alan Maisel, Joseph R. Lentol, Peter J. Abbate Jr., James Brennan, Alec Brook-Krasny, and Felix Ortiz.

These LICH supporters should not vote on Gov. 1% Cuomo's state budget until he save LICH -- and until both legislative houses hold a full hearing on the single-payer bill. Cuomo behind closed doors does not include a bailout for SUNY Downstate.

SUNY Board votes to close Long Island College Hospital

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The only hospital emergency room in the Brooklyn Heights-Cobble Hill area will soon be shuttered.

Officials of Long Island College Hospital voted in favor of closing the financially-strapped facility Friday morning.

The 155-year-old hospital is run by SUNY Downstate Medical Center, whose president said LICH has a projected $41 million deficit this fiscal year. He says the gap is expected to increase to $60 million next year.

Officials had recommended shutting down the inpatient facilities and then working with the community to find a long-range solution. About 2,000 jobs are at stake, and hospital staffers gathered Thursday to denounce the proposed shutdown. At a hearing Thursday night, 150 people packed an auditorium yelling "Why close LICH?"

Officials say there are no plans to sell the property.

The activist and progressives are all over Facebook and twitter demanding pay for fasttfood workers because it is being pushed by unions looking for membership. It is very stranged that these same activists are silent on the health care needs of many of these workers who depend on the hospital system for all their health care needs.
